Party Day!

Today we had the girls' birthday party at Bowness Park today. (For those of you who don't know where I'm talking about...Bowness Park is a large city park that has shelters and picnic sites and playgrounds and walking trails and the Bow River running beside it. There is also a cafe and a lagoon that you can canoe on in the summer, and skate on in the winter!) I was a bit nervous about the weather, because the forecast initially said 80% chance of rain, but it changed several times this week and it ended up being sunny, windy and beautiful out! I love having birthdays in the spring/summer when you can just chill out together outside and run around and have fun. Our timing was perfect as far as that goes ;) lol

We made all sorts of yummy food to share with our party friends; guacamole, lemon sesame hummus, fruit salad, 4-bean salad. Spelt Vegan Chocolate Cake with cherry filling! We also had veggies and watermelon...the watermelon was surprisingly yummy for this time of year. You never know about mid-spring produce...sometimes it's so delicious, others it is bland and watery and obviously not ready to be in season yet!

We planted little cactuses in small terra cotta pots as a craft :) The kids decorated their pots with markers and then planted their plants themselves. It was *so* fun and the kids loved it! Jesse was super sweet and made paper crowns for each child...*sigh* It's stuff like that that really makes me swoon for this man...his totally sweet sensitivity. A man that hand makes paper crowns for his daughters and their friends wins my heart any day of the week ;)

I am just overflowing with warm fuzzy feelings for today...it was a really relaxing, nice way to celebrate my kids.

Oh Crystal, it sounds like it was the perfect birthday party.

Lucas is really into human anatomy right now. Internal body parts and the job they do is fascinating to him.
I think that this summer I will finally decide to plant his placenta. Since he knows what it is now and how important it is, he can be included :)
